Scholastic Book Orders
Placing Scholastic Book orders online is easy. To order online, simply go to Scholastic's web site, www.scholastic.com/parentordering/ (the user name is occchildren, and the password is books). Thanks for your orders!

Lunch Helpers
If you are scheduled as a lunch helper and cannot make your assigned slot, please contact OCC as soon as possible so that someone can be found to fill your slot. Thank you so much!

OCC is Peanut and Tree Nut Free!
OCC has a continuing policy with regard to peanuts and tree nuts. All packed lunches and group snacks must be PEANUT-FREE AND PEANUT BUTTER-FREE. Lunches and snacks must also be free of tree nuts (e.g., walnuts, almonds...

Because more and more children (including some currently enrolled) have life-threatening allergies to nuts, this policy was implemented for the safety of all children who attend our school. Thank you for your cooperation with this important health policy.

Providing Snacks
We try to provide the children with snacks that are low in sugar and high in nutritional content. To that end, we have come up with some suggestions for snacks you can bring in that are healthy and at the same time well-liked by the children. We have also included appropriate portion sizes to keep in mind when buying snack:

Per-child serving sizes

*muffins: "mini", regular, or 1/2 large
* graham crackers: two 2.5" sqs. or one with spread
* animal crackers: 5 pieces
* mini-pretzels: 5 pieces
* whole-wheat bread: 1/2 slice with spread
* whole-wheat bread: 1/2 slice with cheese/fruit
* popped corn: 1/2 cup
* apples, oranges, pears: 2-3 small sections
* grapes: 1 stem section with 6-8 grapes
* bagels: 1/2 of top, 1/4 of whole
* stuffed pitas: 1/3 of large, 1/2 of medium
* bananas: 1/3 of large, 1/2 of medium
* dried apples: 2 rings
* fruit kabobs: 3-4 chunks of fruit
* applesauce: 3-ounce cup
* cookies: 1 small
* vanilla wafers: 2-3 whole
* rice cakes: 2 "mini" or 1/2 large
* raisins: 1-2 tablespoons
* bread sticks: 2 small, 1 large
* juices: 3-4 ounces per child
